Cold Harbor Battlefield
Cold Harbor Battlefield lies just
northeast of Richmond on Rt. 156 in Hanover County. From June 1 to
June 12, 1864, U.S. Grant attempted to seize this important
crossroads from Confederate defenses.
Today, Cold Harbor is a scenic forested park that is overflowing with reports of paranormal activity. Witnesses have reported phenomena that truly run the full spectrum of the supernatural. Some of these include sounds of artillery fire, voices and the sounds of horses in certain areas of the woods, strange blue lights and glowing mists in both the field and the woods, the smell of burned gunpowder, and touches from unseen hands. Battlefield ghosts at Cold Harbor are not the only ethereal being visitors have reported. Many tourists and locals alike claim to have encountered a little girl alone in the cemetery adjacent to the field. She is always reported to be wearing a white dress and bonnet and seems happy and playful. Local legend tells that she died as a result of a fall from a window of the Gravekeeper's House (AKA The Garthright House) but gives little clue as to her identity. Cold Harbor ranked #10 on a list of America's most haunted locales. Click here to read about last month's featured haunt: Belle Island Prison
